Curtis Luke Byars Luke, 17, found resting with the Lord on Friday, January 12, 2008. A celebration of Luke's life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Durham Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte. Pastors Ray Hardee and Nicholas Allen will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Durham Memorial. The burial is at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Luke was born April 7, 1990 in Charlotte, NC. From that moment on, the wold was changed! Anyone who knew Luke also knew of his love for adventure! Luke was a gifted racer, racing with the ATVA National as well as many local races. Luke was a founding member of Student Pointe at Forest Pointe Church, and truly came alive on the mission field. Luke served with Mission Fuge in Charleston, SC; Denver, CO; and Patate, Ecuador. Luke will leave behind many memories with with friends and family at East Gaston High School, Lincoln Charter, Calvary, Everest, Student Pointe, and the race track. Survivors include parents, David and Debbie Byars; sister, Hannah Nicole Byars; uncle and aunt, Michael and Janet Gordon; cousins, Lauren, Emily and Corey; paternal grandmother, Pat Byars; maternal grandparents, Dot and Larry Thomas; maternal great-grandmother, Della McKeown; and a very special friend, Jamie Kendrick. He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Russ Byars; maternal grandfather, Clyde Gordon; and paternal great-grandparents, Quay and Nettie Byars, and Curtis and Ola Robbins. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to the Forest Pointe Church Missions Fund, 26 North Main Street, Suite A, Belmont, NC 28012.
